Music Monday #13

Please click “play” and enjoy…

I’ve been cleaning out my music files again, and I stumbled upon this little beauty! What do we think…first dance material? Justin and I did meet at the end of summer, so it does have some relevance to the lyrics in the song! I guess I’m just a big fan of the “you have stolen my heart” line as well…very sweet.

Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions? Happy Music Monday! J

Music Monday #12

Please click “play” and enjoy…

Ok, so I know this song is out for a first dance song merely because it is country, and Justin does not enjoy country music. BUT, I wanted to post this song regardless, because I think it could be a really cute song for someone else! It is about Johnny Cash and June Carter’s love (side note: LOVED Walk the Line…Reese Witherspoon was amazing in that movie…). I am considering adding it to the playlist for the reception…although do you think the tempo is too fast? I want to say that it is ok…but I am thinking it is relatively “borderline” in-between slow and medium-ish. You know…those songs where you don’t know if you should be slow dancing or not? I don’t want to make it awkward! What are your thoughts?

I’m currently loving the song “Butterflies” by Dave Barnes. It is so cute! It totally reminds me of how I felt when Justin and I first started dating…the lyrics are so fitting for that “new relationship” feeling! My favorite line is the beginning of the chorus: “and I can’t tell you what it is, but it’s the best thing that I’ve found you. The butterflies in my stomach, and my feet off of the ground!” I am thinking that it would be a good song to play…perhaps during the cake cutting???

What do you think? J

For those of you who may not know it, I sang a lot growing up. I went through classical voice lessons for years, was the lead in my high school musical, and went on to sing in an acapella group in college. Nowadays, my crooning is somewhat relegated to singing along to the radio when I’m in the car. Single tear, right? Anyway, I thought it would be such a cool thing to record (or sing live with an acoustic guitar) for the wedding. If I were to do so, I am quite sure that this would be the song. I’m not sure if I could make it happen, but nevertheless I think I want to include it during the day at some point…where should it be placed, do you think?

Today I was thinking about how we will want to end the night. The last song is a pretty important decision! I’m digging the thought of Michael Buble’s “Save the Last Dance for Me” as the song to end our reception. I like how it is upbeat, classic in sound, and very appropriate!

So, what are your thoughts? Is it upbeat enough? Do I need more of a “party” song to end the evening with a bang? Do you have any suggestions? J

Ok folks, I’m back to the processional (possibly?)…Iron and Wine came up on my playlist on the way to campus this morning, and I just love this song. How could I work this into the wedding day? Is it a processional song? First dance? Is it simply a song we should play during dinner-time, or perhaps during the reception at some point? Help a girl out…

I found myself scrolling through the Vitamin String Quartet's website...yet again. You could literally spend hours navigating through the countless albums/songs that they have covered. So much potential...

I love the song "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol...I remember the first time I heard it, a few months before it became one of the most popular songs of that time (Grey's Anatomy, anyone?). The string version of this song is so beautiful...

Or do you think that the real version, lyrics and all, could be implemented? A processional song, possibly? I do love the words in the chorus...

If I lay here...If I just lay here...would you lie with me and just forget the world?

What are your thoughts? Yay or nay?

Music Monday #5

Please click "play" and enjoy...(I am considering only up to the 2:10 mark)

I'm on the hunt for a longer version of the beginning part of this song...the opening theme from Forrest Gump...where the feather is floating across the screen! Couldn't you just imagine an adorable little flower girl walking down the aisle to this song? If it were longer in length, perhaps it could be great for a processional song?

What do you think?

Before the move, I stumbled upon my old case of CD's from years ago. I have always been a fiend for a mix tape/CD/etc...and there literally is a collection of about 50 or more of my old mixes in the case! I've been having a fun time popping them in each time Justin and I are in the car...you never know what song is going to come up next!

Anyhow, today "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds came up on one of the CD's...and I thought it had some good potential! What do you think?

Happy Monday!

Today I decided to ponder a first dance song. Justin is not a fan of country music...so I am attempting to find a song that 1.) fits both of us, and 2.) doesn’t involve a country music artist. And, darn it…those country music singers write some very romantic songs! But, I like a challenge! I was sorting through my iTunes playlist when I stumbled upon the song "True Companion" by Marc Cohn. I was obsessed with it a few years back, and when my iTunes started playing it a little lightbulb popped up over my head. I thought it had potential for a first dance…what are your thoughts?

Music Monday #1

I am hereby dubbing Mondays as “Music Monday.” Hopefully, this can be an opportunity for others to help me with song selection (Should I include it? Where should it be? Etc.), and perhaps for me to share some musical ideas with other brides out there!

For my first installment, please click “play” and enjoy while you read the rest of the post!

In regards to the musical selection for the wedding, I have been considering the option of non-traditional music for the ceremony. I wasn’t one of those little girls who always dreamed of hearing the popular melody of “here comes the bride” as I walked down the aisle. This isn’t to say that music isn’t a huge part of my life; I constantly have my radio, iPod, or Pandora playing while I go about my everyday activities. I sing along to songs in the car (who cares who sees you???), and I find myself humming in the shower in the morning.

I’m thinking that perhaps with music that is more modern, my guests may be able to connect more to the ceremony (or perhaps this is all in my imagination).

I’m in love with the instrumental version of The Verve’s Bittersweet Symphony. I know that it is getting quite popular among brides…so what do you think? Does this tune have good potential for my processional? Chime in with your responses!
